Took the overnight train from
Lisbon, Portugal to Chamartin Madrid, Spain. The train departs from Santa Apolónia Station in Lisbon, which was close to my Hostel. Booked a sleeping berth, The train attendant woke me up half an hour before reaching Madrid.
Travelling in Europe can get expensive, and the best way to save on accommodations is to try and Couch-Surf. You make good friends, most hosts will be willing to take you around their city, one gets to see parts of the city with the locals, places you might not have seen otherwise. Did couch-surf in Madrid with an amazing Spanish couple. Dinner with the Spanish Hosts and friends at an all you can eat Sushi place, picture below
In Madrid took the Hop-on Hop-off Bus to see the City, bought the ticket for the bus from a souvenir store outside the Plaza de Mayor

I took the train from Atocha station in Madrid to Toledo, travel time about 40 Minutes. A day's trip is enough to see the city, I walked all day, no buses or taxis.
